Every fortnight we will bring you the street style of Bournemouth; from the weird and the wonderful to the simple and sophisticated. This week, we’re looking at the cosy coats keeping Bournemouth University students warm as the cold winter approaches.

Oversized boyfriend coats, parkas, bombers and bundles of fur are what’s trending this winter. Whether you have it round your collar, sleeves or hood or whether it’s shearling, sheepskin or teddy fur, all the coats look warmer than ever. Tweed and leather are making a comeback as well, appearing in panels on the shoulders, elbows and pockets or the whole coat itself.

Whether you are a student on a budget or you’ve got a few pennies in your purse, the high-street has many fashionable coats on offer. River Island and Topshop/Topman are at the steeper end of the price range but their coats are made from high-quality material which will definitely keep off the chill. New Look offers similar styles of coats at more reasonable prices, which successfully tick all the boxes for this seasons trends. Lastly, if you are watching your bank balance leading up to Christmas Primark offers a similar range of coats which are cheap and cheerful. Below we have picked out our favourites from each of these stores.

Street Style

We hit the university this week and Bournemouth University students seem to have got the winter warmers spot on.

Nelly Martin

Topshop, £70-80

We love the simple leather panels on the sleeves of this coat which compliment the fur on the collar, giving an edge to a sophisticated coat.

Eric Nguyen in his fur hooded parka.

This coat adds to Eric’s preppy style, with the hint of fur around the hood not only being spot on trend but also giving it that extra warmth.

Taylor Gilmore in her vintage suede coat and Sarah Connel wearing faux fur.

Bricklane, £50 and H&M, £35

Both coats incorporate fur through different materials. We love how even though Taylor’s coat is vintage, it still follows this years trends.

Jack Foster in his casual jacket.

Jack Foster

Pull and Bear, £30-40

This casual but cool coat reflects Jack’s laid back style. We like how the faded hues contrast with the bright red hat.

Lily Zhang in her oversized tweed coat.

River Island Sale, £28

This coat is by far the best bargain, hitting all key trends: oversized boyfriend fit, faux fur, leather look arms and tweed body.

So when looking for your winter warmer, take a leaf out of these students books. You don’t have to tick all boxes to be in fashion this season, just add some faux fur or look for patches of different materials.
