With summer 2014 collections now being introduced worldwide, the talk of the fashion town is most certainly to do with colour colour colour; and many are asking what is the new black?

Producers of the hit TV show ‘Orange is the New Black’ may have unintentionally sparked popularity in orange-tinted women’s wear recently, as the Spring 2014 collection has seen a considerable amount of apricot tones throughout different ready-to-wear shows. The lighter shades of orange such as peach and papaya whip have proved particularly popular, although it seems to be another cool shade that is taking over the fashion nation.

Is white the new black?Throughout women’s wear, footwear and even menswear, the cool shade of bright white along with icy pastels are gaining power and fast. Many in the industry see white as an all-rounder that has never gone out of fashion, although the new boom of popularity in white clothing is becoming bigger than ever. Who ever said that white was boring? This season white clothing is the latest cutting-edge style, with faces such as Diane Kruger, Olivia Palermo and the face of online fashion-retailer Missguided’s Nicole Scherzinger all publicizing the colour.

WhiteWhen it comes to footwear this summer, white is most certainly taking over. The newly popular cleated-heel style shoe with tall platforms is being taken to a new extreme with platforms as large as 8cm, and this style is now being made into a controversial and extremely striking fashion with an all-white shoe. This new type of shoe is a certain up-and-coming trend for summer 2014 lines, although take with caution: not for the faint-hearted.

When taking a sneak-peak at online clothing retailer Missguided’s new-in summer collection, it wasn’t surprising to see a huge 236 white items compared to no more than 106 items for every other colour. Women’s wear this summer is light, bright and white. Many look cool this summer with white t-shirt dresses accompanied by a pair of round-framed sunglasses. As well as the infamous simple t-shirt dress, the bright white looks fab with shift, swing and smock dresses, all giving a floaty look to keep cool this summer. Designer AF Vandevorst’s Spring/Summer 2014 catwalk collection highlights the refreshing white and pastel green colours, along with loose-fitting dresses and trousers to stay airy.
