Britrox Rocks Canvas

A new monthly showcase at Canvas has kicked off and gives unsigned acts to reach a new audience – and rather a large one, too.

The first Britrox took place last month with Burning Codes earning rave reviews for their storming set. They will take place the last Thursday of every month from now on and include a number of different musical genres, not just rock music.

Best of all for us students – every event is free, so if you’re looking for a cheap, fun night out, it’s perfect!

Paul Wookey told local news website BournemouthNews.info that he has big plans for the monthly night at Bournemouth’s only loft bar, Canvas.

“There are plenty of open mic nights in Bournemouth but nothing on this scale,” he said. “A showcase needs to be more than one song – this is a real opportunity to unearth some local talent and help them take the next step.

“Canvas is the perfect venue for this project – it has the potential to be Dorset’s answer to Ronnie Scott’s in London.”

Paul himself is a talent spotter with more than 20 years experience, and connections with big labels such as Universal, Island Records, Warner/Chappel Warner Bros and Sony.

The next Britrox showcase takes place February 25 with not one but three acts - The Baker Brothers, local legend Drew Allen and jazz artist Emel Michael.

You can watch Britrox on Sky 212 & 261, Freeview 254, and Filmon TV USA.

Keep your ears peeled for future reviews from the Bournemouth Rock!
