About

The Rock is an independent quality newspaper providing a compelling mix of original news, sports, features and opinion.

The dynamic professional publication has a bold and fresh design and covers a wide range of issues from quirky, to the serious reflecting the diversity of its readers – giving Bournemouth a unique perspective on the world.

Created in 2011, the Rock is published fortnightly during term times with a print run of 5,000 copies and is distributed around Talbot Campus, Winton, Lansdowne, Bournemouth town centre and Poole town centre.

In 2013, the community newspaper took up a new challenge and launched its website combining multimedia technology and traditionalprint journalism to reach its readers in a new approach closer to their own lifestyle.

Our non-profit student-run newsroom offers plenty of opportunities for students to develop both on a personal and professional level leading to a career in many areas including journalism, media, PR and marketing.

In its second year of existence, the Rock has seen over a 200 students pass through its office and gained a real-world experience, which has led for many graduates to successful jobs. We hope you can join us in our venture and get a taste of what the media industry has to offer.
